Mumbai Congress chief Milind Deora met up with other Congress leaders, Amin Patel, Kripashankar Singh and Naseem Khan, in the city for some introspection after the party’s drubbing in the Lok Sabha polls. He also cancelled his Delhi visit to be with party workers.

Deora said that Congress activists will build the party once again to give a much better performance in this year’s assembly polls. “I Just met party workers and heard them out,” he said.

In Mumbai, the Congress was only leading in four assembly segments: Mumbaidevi, Byculla, Dharavi and Bandra East. This was a cause for worry. But party leaders said that compared to 2014, the Congress vote share has increased.
There were suggestions that the party must have an electoral truck with Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, but some Congress MLAs pointed out that in that case the Gujaratis, who constitute a large chunk of Mumbai’s population, would come down against the Congress and vote for BJP-Sena.
