The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, which started its vaccination drive with nine centres, has plans to extend it to 72. The response to the drive is yet to reach 100 per cent. On Friday, the BMC could complete only 74 per cent of the vaccination targeted for frontline workers and 85 per cent for health workers.

Additional Commissioner of BMC (Health) Suresh Kakani said, “We began with nine centres and now we have 21 centres in Mumbai. For increased response, we will soon have up to 25 centres and in the near future, we will have 72 centres.”

The BMC had started its drive on January 16.

Kakani said that the BMC will send teams to chowkies of safai workers and also police stations so that more frontline workers come forward for vaccination.

On Saturday, Thane Collector Rajesh Narvekar took the vaccine as a member of the frontline staff. He said, “I got the vaccine at 2 pm and was kept under observation for 30 minutes after which I resumed work.’’

While Jalil Parkar, a senior pulmonologist with Lilavati Hospital, said, “All must take the vaccine. I had suffered from Covid earlier. I took my vaccine and later took a Dolo tablet and resumed work. There are no sideeffects.’’

Dr Vineeta M, a doctor with a private hospital, said, “I am a little wary of taking the vaccine. I never got Covid, but since I deal with a lot of patients, I need to take it.’’

An employee of KEM Hospital said, “We have heard of people getting fever and giddiness. I am a little wary and will delay the process a little. As it is, I have antibodies, working in the hospital.’’
