Former Mumbai Police Commissioner Arup Patnaik, joined Odisha’s ruling party the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on April 18, 2018. Chief Minister and party President Naveen Patnaik said the former Indian Police Service Officer will be a ‘valuable asset’ to the party.
Former Mumbai police commissioner Arup Patnaik is contesting elections from Bhubaneshwar Lok Sabha constituency. Voting will take place here on April 17.
Arup Patnaik isn't the only police officer who has turned politician, one more former police commissioner entered politics.

Singh was due to retire in 2015 but became the first police commissioner of Mumbai to quit the post in 2014 to enter politics.
He is seeking re-election in 2019 from the same Baghpat constituency. Satyapal Singh was Minister (MoS HRD) in the Narendra Modi govt.
