Mumbai: Over 20 people were booked for allegedly violating Covid-19 norms at Palghar during the weekend, police informed on Tuesday.

Dozens of people hoping to enjoy their weekend flocked to Asheri Gad and Medvan Khind. "Despite restrictions imposed in the state prohibiting people from assembling at picnic spots and venturing near water bodies, these people crowded the spots, risking an outbreak of COVID-19," a police official said.

He added that two cases have been registered under section 188 of the Indian Penal Code, but no arrests have been made so far.

Moreover, the official also stated that road checks led to 216 people getting penalised and a total sum of Rs 44,800 has been collected for defying prohibitory orders.

As many as 23 persons were fined over Rs 11,000 for not wearing masks.
